The here and now presents us all with challenges, so it is often volunteers who make a decisive difference with their commitment and passion. They are an indispensable help, especially in areas that are not always sufficiently recognised by the general public, such as the fight against human trafficking. The support of helping volunteer hands is not only a valuable resource, but also a source of human strength that helps to raise awareness and bring about change.

Volunteering – together against human trafficking
Human trafficking, exploitation, abduction and forced sex work are global issues that unfortunately still receive far too little attention. Millions of people worldwide are affected by exploitation, be it in the form of forced labour, sexual exploitation or other forms of human rights violations. Expertise and a deep understanding of the issue are key to tackling this crime and supporting those affected. But this is precisely where volunteers come into play, making an important contribution with their passion, knowledge and skills.
Volunteers are invaluable, especially in the area of prevention and education. They help to disseminate information, organise awareness-raising measures and reach people who might not otherwise be made aware of the issue. They are the ones who help to raise public awareness of the issue of human trafficking through their social networks and personal presence.
The importance of volunteers in the field of photography and social media

In today’s digital world, it is almost impossible to achieve change without the support of social media and modern communication tools. That’s why volunteer photography and social media are playing an increasingly important role in raising awareness and educating people about human trafficking.
With their images, volunteer photographers help to tell the stories of survivors of human trafficking and attract the attention of the public. The visual representation of fates can not only inform, but also create a deeper empathy and help to emphasise the urgency of the problem. In addition to these aspects, discussion events, international meetings and dialogue rounds also need to be captured. Photos not only serve to document the moment, but also play an important role in post-event reporting.
Social media has proven to be one of the most effective tools for mobilising people and creating global awareness. Volunteers working in this field can make an important contribution to bringing the issue of human trafficking into the public discourse by creating and disseminating content such as blog posts, infographics, videos or short social media posts. They can develop creative campaigns that have a far-reaching impact via hashtags, challenges or online discussions.
The added value of volunteering
The commitment of volunteers creates a community of people who stand up for the rights and well-being of others. Their work shows how valuable solidarity between people is – a solidarity that is necessary to combat the dark sides of our world and bring about positive change.
We at Hope for the Future are lucky to be able to rely on many volunteer helping hands! For example, the area of ‘product photography’ is of great importance to us.
Alexandru Bogdan has been working for Hope for the Future for some time now and helps us to present our sewing products in an appealing way. These images are used for our webshop but also for postings etc.

What volunteers achieve in the work against human trafficking goes far beyond the purely practical aspects. They not only contribute their time and skills, but also their passion and commitment. They are not only helpers, but also ambassadors for a better world, free from exploitation and human rights violations.
However, it is just as essential to capture specialist conferences, discussion events and public appearances in photographs. As a photographer with over ten years of experience, I use my passion to accompany events and provide deeper insights – for example in the follow-up report on the ‘Panel discussion: Structural barriers to labour market access’.
